Calories in Nigerian Moi Moi

 

What if I told you you could make two batches of moi moi and one batch would be double the calories of the other?

The way meals are cooked and ingredient used can affect calories in the meals drastically. There is no average calorie formula for Nigerian food, guessing doesn’t work because recipes are so vast and different.

Below is a quick example of how you could easily double calories in moi moi. (See video below)

 

Ingredients

  • Beans – 1 Cup
  • Red Bell Peppers – 2
  • Onion – 1
  • Eggs – 6
  • Corned beef – 90g
  • Mackerel – 100g
  • Seasoning

Directions

  1. Blend beans, peppers, onion, 1 cup water till smo0th
  2. Add 2 raw eggs and seasoning to blended mix and stir in.
  3. Split blended mix into two equal parts.

Batch A – Assorted

  • Add 4 tablespoons palm oil to mix
  • Add 90 corned beef to mix
  • Add 100g mackerel to mix
  • Stir in till well mixed
  • Split into 7 batches – use banana leave or ramekins

Batch B – Simple

  • Add 2 tablespoons palm oil to mix
  • Stir in till well mixed
  • Split into 7 batches – use banana leave or ramekins

As you can see from this breakdown, unless you cook the food following a recipe you never know if you are eating moimoi A or B, to add to that most wraps have different sizes too. one could make a wrap that is twice the size of the one we have presented above. There is no “Standard portion” size.
